*Aw, bloody hell!* Spike downed another bottle of whiskey and threw the empty glass against the wall of his crypt. It hit hard and shattered, the shards falling to join their comrades on the floor.
"Damn you to hell, Slayer." He said venomously to the empty room.
*She keeps saying she don't want me. Heh. Sure, I'm buying that.* The blond vampire got up and stormed out of his crypt.
*Fine. She says I'm not bloody welcome, so be it! Nothin' keepin' me in the forsaken town. Might as well go find me somethin' fun to do.*
A few minutes a motorcycle revved to life and spend out of the cemetery and headed out of Sunnydale.
One week later.
"Here Dawn, let me get that for you."
"No, I've got it."
"Really, let me help."
"I told you. I've got it."
Buffy groaned, watching from the top of the stairs. It had been this way for the past two weeks. Ever since Willow had almost got Dawn killed she had done nothing but try to make up for it. At first Dawn hadn't minded. In fact, she actually enjoyed being waited on. But now she had just become fed up with being treated like a baby. But Willow continued, her guilt egging her on
Buffy had given up trying to be peacemaker. She didn't care anymore, as long as they were fighting with each other the chances of them getting into real trouble was slim.
"Dawny, please --"
"Guys, I'm going out to patrol. You'll be alright for a few hours?" Buffy interrupted the argument over who would clear the table.
Dawn and Willow turned as Buffy grabbed her coat from the hook beside the door. "Yeah, we'll be fine. Be careful!"
Buffy smiled and nodded. She hadn't gotten to the first step of
the porch stairs before she heard them start their argument all over
again. She wanted to scream at them, but knew it would do no good.
It seemed evil had decided to leave The Hellmouth for good. Or at least the better part of this week. She had gone out for several hours for the past 3 night and staked not one vamp.
She hadn't even seen hind nor hair of Spike. Which was odd, seeing as how he could hardly stay away from her lately. Buffy sighed, shaking the thought of Spike away from her mind. *I'm happy I haven't seen Spike,* she reminded herself. *Maybe that means he has finally gotten the message that I don't, and will never, love him. Never. Ever...*
*Still, patrolling is a little lonely without him. Especially
with the lack of slayage going on lately.. No! Bad Buffy! No Spike is
good.* The Slayer nodded her to affirm that thought and headed back
home as she had no excuse not to.
The Slayer entered her home to find wedding magazines galore littering her living room floor. Amid them sat Anya, Dawn, Willow and Xander, who, as soon as he saw Buffy, bounded up from his seat and fell to his knees in front of The Slayer.
"Please, please, please save me! Save me from the Wedding Demon! Please, oh great Slayer!" He pleaded with a hopeless look upon his face.
"Oh please, Xander!" Anya exclaimed. "Come here and tell what you think of these dresses." She flourished a pen threateningly at him. *Just like Spike flourishes a sword... Bad Buffy!*
Xander gave Buffy one last hopeful look before going to his bride-to-be's side.
"Planning the wedding, I see." Buffy threw her coat at a chair
and waded into the fray. *Last wedding I planned was Spike and....* She
stopped dead in her mental tracks. *It's thoughts like that that keep
getting you in trouble.* She told herself sternly.
Some hours later Xander and Anya finally packed up and headed home. Dawn had gone to bed already, since she had school in the morning. Buffy said good night to Willow as the red head retired.
Buffy headed to the kitchen to see what she could find in the way of food. She was half-way through building a sandwich when she heard the front door open.
"Spike?" She heard a hopeful voice call. It took a second to realize that it had been her voice. She frowned deeply. *What the hell is wrong with me?*
Xander poked his head into the kitchen, 'Sorry to disappoint you. Just little ole me. Anya forgot one of her magazines. And it couldn't wait till tomorrow."
Buffy smiled, "She certainly is taking this wedding seriously."
"Yep, well it's important to her. And therefore it is important to me!" He replied, trying desperately to sound excited. "Hey, you weren't expecting Spike tonight or anything, were you?"
Buff shook her head, "No.. Why?" *Maybe he's seen him...*
"Well, it's just you sounded.. I mean, just a minute ago.. I mean, you sounded like you were pretty certain it would be him. And.. and.. Well, that's it you just sounded like you thought it was him. That's all."
"Oh. Nope, wasn't expecting him. I uhmm..." She paused uncertainly. *Why did I think it was Spike?* "I guess, I just thought it might be him. Sense he, you know, hasn't shown his face lately."
"Oh, right.. Any idea where he's gotten off to?"
Buffy shook her head in the negative, busying herself with the making of her sandwich.
"Weird. Well, I'm sure he'll show up sooner or later. He always does." Xander shrugged. "I'd better be gettin' before Anya comes looking for me. Night!"
"Night Xander."
*I hope he shows up sooner rather then later.* She looked up in disbelief at her thoughts. "No, no, no!" She muttered. "Stop it!"
Determined not to think of Spike again, Buffy finished her sandwich and drudged up the stairs to bed.
